KURT HERRMANN

PENNSYLVANIA BASED PAINTER

SEPTEMBER 21ST - NOVEMBER 2ND, 2019

SEPTEMBER 21ST - NOVEMBER 2ND, 2019

“I love the impossibly big, bulbous warlike shapes of monster game fish. They remind me of cathedrals with fins and teeth cutting through the water the way a gothic spire pierces the sky. These new Color Bombs tap into big fish, Aussie beaches, and my ongoing love of jazz. As with most of the Color Bombs, they are rarely literal. The initial inspiration is simply a launch pad to shoot a rocket off into the unknown. All sorts of memories and intentions are tied to these rockets but they need to be free to go wherever they chose. I may be remembering the shapes and colors of Bondi Beach, or trying to visualize the sound of John Coltrane, but when the work springs to life I have to let it go and try not to harness it too much. I continuously prod it this way or that but a painting doesn’t work unless it can sing by itself.”
